Porto Moniz is famed for the natural salt water pools that have been carved out from the black basalt rocks. These pools have been enhanced to become the town’s main attraction and are a wonderful place to relax and unwind. During the summer the waters are comfortingly warm with little fish swimming around the bottom. There are two sets of pools, the ones directly behind the Iheu de Mole which are deeper and natural while the set behind the Resturant Oraca have been developed to resemble more of a swimming pool based in a stunning location.
